Gym Rats Basketball Camp at Fredonia State

Fredonia State will be hosting the 11th annual "Gym Rats Basketball Camp" this July on the campus of Fredonia State University. The camp is for boys and girls ages 4 to 9 and will be held the week of July 9-13. The camp runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon daily.

The camp is geared for young girls and boys as a fun introduction to the game of basketball. All the camp participants will be using a smaller sized youth basketball and drills and instruction will be performed on 8-foot baskets. Campers will participate in lead-up games, relay races, and do lots of passing, dribbling, ball handling and shooting. All campers get a free T-shirt, basketball and a daily snack. The cost for the camp is $90.

"Shoot the Lights Out" Basketball Camp for Boys and Girls at Fredonia State

Fredonia State will be hosting the 11th annual "Shoot the Lights Out" Basketball Camp this summer on the campus of Fredonia State University. The camp is for boys and girls entering grades 4th through 12th and will be held the week of July 16-20. The camp runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

The focus of the basketball camp will be shooting the basketball. Players will be taught the fundamentals of shooting including footwork, grip, release, follow through, shooting off the pass and dribble, 3-point shooting and free throw shooting. Campers get a free T-shirt and a free pizza party on the last day of camp and the cost for the week is $175 per person.

Walk-up registrations will be accepted starting at 9 a.m. on the first day of camp, however enrollment is limited to the first 150 registrants.

Fredonia State to host Springboard Diving Camp

The seventh annual Blue Devil Diving Camp will be conducted during the week of July 9-13 at Steele Hall Natatorium on the Fredonia State Campus. The camp wil focus on teaching the skills to successfully compete in springboard diving at the age group or high school level. Ages 8-18 are accepted. The camp will emphasize safe entries into the water, proper approaches plus somersaults and twists. A trampoline with spotting belt and dryboard pit will be among the apparatus used in the learning of basic and more advance dives.

Fredonia State Diving Coach John Crawford will be assisted by college and high school coaches as well as divers from the present Blue Devil team.

Junior Golf at Vineyards

Junior Golf at The Vineyards Golf Course will offer a Junior Golf program. It will begin Thursday at noon and will run for seven consecutive Thursdays. It is open to all children ages 8-18 years old.

Cassadaga Midget Football and Cheerleading

Final sign ups for the Cassadaga Midget Football and Cheerleading will take place Tuesday, July 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sinclairville Elementary School. Bring a copy of the child's birth certificate and the registration fee of $50 for one child, $75 for two children and $80 for three or more children. Players and cheerleaders cannot turn 14 prior to Aug. 1 and must turn 9 by Dec. 1.

Basketball Camp

The Fredonia Central School Boys' Basketball Camp will be held Monday, July 23 through Thursday, July 26 at the Fredonia High School and Middle School gymnasiums from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost for the Camp is $90. The camp is open to boys entering grades 3 through 12. All campers will receive a camp T-shirt.

Each athlete is expected to arrive between 8:30 and 9 a.m. The camp will start promptly at 9:30 a.m. Athletes are expected to bring their own lunch.

Inaugural Underclassmen Showcase

The Inaugural Underclassmen Showcase baseball and softball games, featuring Western New York sophomore and junior baseball and softball players, will take place on Saturday, Aug. 11, at North Collins Central Schools Sports Complex.

The baseball game will feature two icons of the WNY baseball world, longtime Orchard Park coach Bob Barrows and former Eden coach Bob Burnside, who will head the coaching staffs.

The softball game will pay tribute to former Williamsville South coach Gerry Gentner, who lost his courageous battle with cancer in January.

The showcase games will provide local baseball and softball players with exposure to college coaches from throughout the Northeast. Coaches wishing to nominate their sophomores or juniors, should contact Robert Catalino at rcatalino@roadrunner.com, or at 432-8458, or North Collins' softball coach Jan Warren at jmwarren114@aol.com, or by calling 860-6829.
