Twenty years ago - 1992

The newly-established Robert Peterson Excellence in Agriculture Award was presented to Cassadaga Valley Central School sophomore Allen Chase at the district's annual Future Farmers of America Banquet. Allen, the son of Morris and Barbara Chase of Cherry Creek, is majoring in agriculture and science at CVCS. He has an extensive hog project at home, where he helps with the operation of a 45-cow dairy farm.

Thirty years ago - 1982

The Stockton Gala Days are about to begin and workmen are busy today assembling some of the 50 rides which will be available for children of all ages. Included in these rides are a giant slide and super ferris wheel. Giant fireworks displays are also scheduled.

Forty years ago - 1972

Harry Coogan has retired after 24 years as the postmaster of Sheridan.

Steve Wright, 17, of 741 Eagle St., Dunkirk captured the banana-eating title at the National Junior Explorer Olympics at Colorado State University.

Fifty years ago - 1962

The Westfield Moose barbershop quartet took top honors in a nationwide contest held in Atlanta, Ga., at the Moose International Convention. Members are Jack Lusten, leader; Richard Mathews, Stanton Walker and Wayne Werner.
