Support major effort

July 12, 2012
The OBSERVER

On Wednesday, NRG Energy Inc. was highlighted in our daily and special editions.

First, NRG was named the title sponsor in the Brooks Memorial Hospital golf tournament. The tournament raises thousands of dollars which go back to the hospital to care for the community.

In our special edition, NRG was named one of the platinum sponsors of the Laurel Run, which takes place July 20 and 21.

Both events bring awareness and make our community a better place to live.

Today, community members can be there for NRG. A press conference will take place at the city pier to announce improvements to the power plant, which is expected to be a $700 million investment in the region.

"This is really our opportunity to take this issue on as our own and it's the most important thing to be working on," said County Executive Greg Edwards. "If people get out and physically show their support for this effort - that would be great."

Jim Payne, owner of the soon to be open Rosie's Red Hots, even has a reward for as many as 500 people who show up to the event - a coupon for a free lunch.

The event begins at 1 p.m. at the city pier. Celebrate NRG's investment plans for its plant - and the community.
