CHAUTAUQUA - In the Amphitheater this week, National Public Radio (NPR) program, From the Top with host Christopher O'Riley tapes live and a capella group Vocal Trash performs as part of the Family Entertainment Series. Other entertainment includes the Music School Festival Orchestra and Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra.
The week begins Sunday, July 15 with free admission to the grounds. Guests are welcome to see the Chautauqua School of Dance Student Gala directed by Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux in the Amphitheater at 2:30 p.m. Access to the grounds is always free on Sundays and parking is free until 1:30 p.m.
Guest conductor Timothy Muffitt returns to Chautauqua to lead the Music School Festival Orchestra in the Amphitheater, Monday at 8:15 p.m.
The Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra (CSO) will be led twice this week, on Tuesday and Thursday, by Michael Stern, music director of the Kansas City Symphony. He is the guest conductor of both performances and Thursday he is joined by cellist Amit Peled for Community Appreciation Night. On these nights, tickets are just $18. Both performances will begin at 8:15 p.m. in the Amphitheater.
Family Entertainment Series (FES) presents Vocal Trash on Wednesday. This electrifying performance of tight a cappella harmonies, industrial style drumming, and award winning break-dancing will delight all ages. Part street performers, part recycling gurus, Vocal Trash incorporates going green into every show. The show begins at 8:15 p.m. in the Amphitheater. FES performances are always free.
On Friday, NPR's From the Top with host Christopher O'Riley will tape live in the Amphitheater at 8:15 p.m. From the Top, hosted by acclaimed pianist Christopher O'Riley, features amazing performances and captivating personal stories of extraordinary young classical musicians from across the country including two Chautauqua students, Laura Park and Alexandra "Allie" Switala.
The Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus joins the CSO on Saturday for a performance in the Amphitheater at 8:15 p.m. The performance features soprano, Janice Chandler-Eteme and baritone, Tyler Duncan.
Tickets for Amphitheater performances are $40. On Community Appreciation Nights, ticket prices are reduced to $18 and Family Entertainment Series performances are always free.
