Friday Evening Couples League - The format was a four-player scramble with an extra Par 3 twist. The first-place team with a score of 33 was Dennis/Cheryl Gawronski and Pat Kaus. Next with a score of 34 was the team of Dave/Colleen Paradis and Pete/Colleen Borzilleri. Jim/Jane Ellman and Larry Wollert came in with a score of 35. A four-way tie with 36 were the teams of Fritz Worosz, John/Paula Lakas; Jim Waite, Chuck/Carole Hudson; Chris/Priscilla Penfold, George/Pam Allessi; and Bob/Jan Manning, Wink/Pat Daniel. Paul/Theresa Leone and Larry/Rosemary Tibbetts had a score of 37. Closest to the pin on No.5 was the team of Gawronski/Kaus and closest to the pin on No. 9 was the team of Allessi/Penfold.

Karate Connection shines at grappling tourney

Norman Yonkers’ Karate Connection MMA Academy’s Grappling Team took all first-place prizes at the AG Combat Sports Tournament in Jamestown on July 14. The team competed in its various age and weight groups in the Gi and No-Gi — with and without a uniform. Michael Benedict took first in Gi and first in No-Gi in 11-12-year-old division. Adam Sellari took first in Gi and first in No-Gi in the 8-9 division. Albert Chapa took first in Gi and first in No-Gi in teens.The grappling team trains in Gokor Chivichyan’s Hayastan Grappling System under Norman Yonkers. The next event will be at its home tournament in Fredonia at the high school on Saturday, Aug. 25. This event is held annually by Norman Yonkers and includes a seminar on Sunday, Aug. 26th by World Champion grappler, Gokor Chivichyan. DLBA Meeting And Election Of Officers
The Dunkirk Lakeshore Bowling Association will hold its annual election of officers on Monday, July 23 at 7 p.m. at the First Ward Falcon Club in Dunkirk. A light meal will be served prior to the elections.
Any person who bowled in a league within the DLBA during the 2011-2012 season is welcome to attend and run for any office up for election.
All league officers are encouraged to attend to receive instructions for the upcoming season. Any current member of the Board of Directors is required to attend.

Tour of Chautauqua Bike Ride Reminder
The 29th annual Tour of Chautauqua Bike Ride will be held Saturday, Aug. 11, originating and finishing in front of the Eason Hall, 23 Elm St., Westfield. The mass start begins at 9 a.m. Water and refreshment stops and sag wagon services are provided. Helmets are required. Recreational tours of courses of 25, 40, 62, 75 and 100 miles are offered, with a meal at the finish. Entries postmarked by July 20 are $18 and include a T-shirt while entries after the 20 and the day of the ride are $20 and receive a Tour of Chautauqua water bottle. Softball Classic
Time is running out for teams to register for the Fourth Annual Nathan George Memorial Co-ed Softball Classic, which will take place on Saturday, Aug. 11. Teams wishing to play should register by no later than Tuesday.
