Twenty years ago - 1992

Patrick M. Sheedy, 49, a Dunkirk native, will be commissioned as New York State Grange deputy state master this month with ceremonies to take place at Fredonia Grange 1. A 1961 graduate of Dunkirk High School, he is the son of John and Christine Sheedy, 959 Central Ave., Dunkirk.

Thirty years ago - 1982

The Chautauqua County Planning Board recently made public recommendations for capital spending in 1983. The planners strongly urge spending no less than $237,000 on the County Home in Dunkirk, including $134,000 to replace its roof, which the commission says has been badly leaking for a number of years and now threatens the integrity of the whole structure.

Forty years ago - 1972

The average family income was $8,838 in Chautauqua County in 1969, compared with $10,617 for the state, according to a report on the 1970 census by the Bureau of the Census, U.S. Department of Commerce.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Lorraine Hamernik of 107 South Beaver St., Dunkirk won a six-piece silver place setting in a nationwide "Graduate to Sterling" contest. She qualified for the contest by registering at the H.L. Holliday Jewelry Store, 35 East Main St, Fredonia.
