Richard C. Kirell

Richard C. Kirell, age 100, most recently of St. Vincent's Home, formerly a resident of Fredonia, passed away after a short illness at Brooks Memorial Hospital on July 25, 2012. He was born July 16,

1912 in Westfield, NY, the son of the late Adolph and Agnes (Cruser) Kirell. A lifelong Chautauqua County resident, Mr. Kirell graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1932. He joined the U.S. Army Air Force on April 27, 1942 and was honorably discharged on Nov. 6, 1945. He was awarded the American Service medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal and the Good Con-

duct medal. Mr. Kirell was employed at the Dunkirk Lakeside Club from 1952 until his retirement in 1988. He loved driving and drove until the age of 97, and could be seen taking his daily ride around the lake or parking on the pier, watching all the water activities which brought him much enjoyment. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing in his own boat. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 62 and an honorary CEO and life member of the Dunkirk Lakeside Club. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Alice (Hitzges) Kirell, whom he married in 1956 and who died on Dec. 20, 1995; his son, Jeffrey Kirell; four brothers, Norman, William, Jack and Warren Kirell; and two half-sisters, Audrey Rozumalski and Thelma Hollingshead. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
