Fredonia Police
Gladymir Morales, 23, of Smith Court, Dunkirk and Paula Alicea-Pacheco, 22, of Dove Street, Dunkirk were charged with petit larceny on July 27. Police were called to Walmart at 6:20 p.m. for the report of a theft. Between the two females, 19 items totaling $125.30 were taken from the store without being paid for. Both females were released on $250 bail.
Sean M. Lawler, 21, of Terrace Place was charged with having an open container and littering on July 28. At 12:38 a.m. police observed Lawler walking on Lambert Avenue with a group of males. When Lawler stopped walking with the males, police observed Lawler hiding behind a tree with a Gatorade bottle full of alcohol. Lawler was released on an appearance ticket.
John P. Snyder Jr., 48, of Canajoharie was charged with third-degree assault on July 27. Police were called to the White Inn at 11:30 p.m. for a dispute between a father and a son. Snyder allegedly struck his son several times in the face during a dispute causing injury. Snyder was held pending arraignment.
Tyler Lintz, 20, of Ruggles Street was charged with violating the sewer ordinance, unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of alcohol on July 29. At 12:38 a.m. police observed Lintz urinating on a tree on Cushing Street. Once stopped, police observed Lintz throw something to the ground and later discovered this was marijuana. Lintz was also found to be in possession of alcohol. Joshua E. Strauf, 18, of South Roberts Road, Dunkirk was with Lintz and he was found to be in possession of marijuana and was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. Both males were released on an appearance ticket.
Joseph A. Culmo, 24, of Newton Street was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of marijuana on July 29. Police responded to a Newton Street address at 11:31 p.m. for the report of a larceny of medical pills. The victims had believed Culmo had taken the pills. When questioned, Culmo admitted to being in possession of another substance when police searched through Culmo's wallet. He was held on $500 bail.
Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office
CHAUTAUQUA - Residents of Chautauqua were without power for several hours after a distracted driver received minor injuries after striking an electrical transmission line.
Around 2:30 p.m., Nicolas Melquist, 17, of Jamestown, was traveling west on Route 394 just past Willow Run Golf Course in the Town of Chautauqua when he was distracted and veered off the right side off the road and sheared off a National Grid utility pole. The live wires started a small fire on a nearby pine tree. The 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck was destroyed in the collision with the pole. The driver was wearing a seatbelt and with the deployment of the airbag walked away with minor injuries.
The driver was transported to Westfield Hospital for observation.
National Grid was called to the scene to replace the pole and turn off the main transmission lines for the area before the truck could be removed from the scene. Route 394 was closed for about two hours before being opened. Power was expected to be off approximately four hours because the pole was carrying the main transmission lines for the area.
MAYVILLE - During recent routine shakedowns at the Chautauqua County Jail the following inmates were discovered to be in possession of the following contraband: Michael Harris, 43, of Buffalo, was in possession of a large amount of tobacco and matches with strikers; Nathan A. Kohler, 25, of Forestville, had seven gabapentin pills and chewing tobacco in addition to homemade "jail house hooch" wine; John A. Bish, 46, of Jamestown, had tramadol and gabapentin pills in addition to homemade "jail house hooch" wine; Patrick T. Raynor, 45, of Jamestown, had Cataflam pills and homemade "jail house hooch" wine. All subjects were charged with promoting prison contraband and will appear in Town of Chautauqua Court.
