Twenty years ago - 1992

Dr. Mary Kay Urbanik has been named the new executive director of the Northern Chautauqua County United Way Board. She has spent the last four years as director of curriculum for the Fredonia Central Schools and has been in the education field for 10 years. A local resident for the past 20 years, Dr. Urbanik replaces Trudy Penharlow, who left to develop other interests.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Dr. Roman J. Shubert, recently retired after a 35-year career as an ophthalmologist, was honored at a surprise party held at his home on West Lake Road in Dunkirk. Sixty friends from Erie, Jamestown, Williamsville and the Dunkirk-Fredonia area gathered at the Shubert residence for the late afternoon through evening cocktail/buffet supper party.

Forty years ago - 1972

Although preliminary site work has been going on for more than a week, the building permit for a new Twin Fair Discount Department Store on Vineyard Drive in the town of Dunkirk was just issued yesterday.

Fifty years ago - 1962

A Girl Scout commemorative stamp is now available in local post offices. It is a four-cent stamp in red and white showing the head of an intermediate Girl Scout. The stamp was issued in honor of Girl Scouting's 50th anniversary.
