Hands Across the Sand event Saturday at Wright Park

The Hands Across the Sand event will be held Saturday at noon on Wright Beach in Dunkirk.

Hands Across the Sand is an annual international grassroots event that brings people together from all over the world joining hands to protect and not to protest.

Hands is a movement made up of people of all walks of life and crosses all borders and political affiliations. It is not about politics; it is about joining hands to protect our beaches, coastal economies, seafood and oceans from dangerous, dirty offshore drilling and accidents associated as well as to champion clean energy solutions instead of continuing our depending on dirty fuels. This gathering is not about protesting, it's about protecting.

Locally, the group will meet at 11:45 a.m. at Wright Beach to hold hands from 12 to 12:15 p.m.

Brooks offers breastfeeding support

to new mothers

The Maternity and Labor Department staff at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk is announcing the start of individualized Breastfeeding Support Classes for postpartum women. Brooks Memorial Hospital is an affiliate of Lake Erie Regional Health System of New York.

Roselle Atzrott, NR, BSN, CCE, CLC, Obstetrics/Gynecology Department Director, said the class is for anyone experiencing difficulty with breastfeeding or in need of resources. One-on-one support sessions will be held at Brooks' Maternity and Labor Department, 529 Central Ave., Dunkirk.

Ripley to hold annual book sale Saturday

The annual book sale at Ripley Free Library is on Saturday.

Doors will open at 9 a.m. The library is located on Route 20, at 64 West Main St., Ripley.

Beaches reopened

All Chautauqua Lake bathing beaches previously closed by the Chautauqua County Department of Health because of public health concerns have now been deemed safe for swimming.
