The fifth edition of the Chadwick Bay Beach Bash is set to kick off Saturday morning in Wright Park and the annual summer event has something for every age group.
The Bash begins at 10 a.m. with a sand castle contest on the Wright Park beach. Castle-building teams may have up to 10 members for the free event. At the same time, Dunkirk Little League will host a Little League baseball tournament at its Wright Park fields. A Kids Zone and caricature artist will run from 2 to 6 p.m.
Registration for the tug-of-war contest begins at 2 p.m. There is a $10 fee per team for the event, scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Teams must have eight to 10 members.
Barbecue will be available beginning at 2 p.m. with Big Mike's BBQS from Silver Creek; Big Belly Barbecue from Hamburg and Famous Dave's from Cheektowaga having various offerings for sale.
There is one change from initial plans. Buffalo Sabre Nathan Gerbe will be unable to attend as scheduled due to recent surgery. Former Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears offensive lineman - and now television and radio personality - Ruben Brown will be on hand from 3 to 5 p.m. for some autograph signing.
Radio personalities will be present as well.
Leading off from noon to 2 p.m. is Mark James of 96.5 Kix Country. From 3 to 5 p.m. Shredd and Ragan of 103.3 The Edge will bring their insights to Wright Park, followed by 97 Rock's Slick Tom from 6 to 8 p.m.
Live music is set to run from noon to 9 p.m.
Brent Persia, an acoustic-type, one-man band will perform from noon to 2:30 p.m. From 3 to 4 p.m. the Marauder Steel Drum Band will be making its presence felt.
Tribute bands will fill the rest of the musical program and provide two distinct musical genres for listeners. Key West Express, a Jimmy Buffet Tribute, will perform from 4 to 6 p.m.
Closing the evening will be a first for the waterfront. Hot Rocks, a Rolling Stones tribute band from Toronto, has been playing the songs of arguably the greatest rock and roll band since 2000 to rave reviews. More information on the band is available at www.mickjagger.ca.
In addition to food, liquid refreshments will be available, including from the Coors Light Beer Tent.
Parking will be available by the skatepark, enter from Warsaw Street. Certain streets in the area will be blocked off, look for directions.
This event is funded by local area businesses, including DFT Communications, NRG, APG, Cott, KixCountry, Coors Light and the Dunkirk Chamber of Commerce.
