CASSADAGA - Cassadaga Shur-Fine thinks the beach program in Cassadaga is important to the community. Therefore, the local business sent Tammieann Wichlacz, an aide in the program, to Wednesday's village board meeting with a check. The owners asked her to present it to the beach program. The board expressed its thanks to Shur-Fine.
According to Wichlacz, the program is now halfway through the season which ends on Aug. 24. She said 70 children come to the beach for swimming lessons. Other recreation programs from within the Cassadaga Valley School district come on Wednesdays to swim.
"All the kids are well-behaved," said Wichlacz, "and I love working there."

A few events are left in the season. On Monday, Aug. 6, kids are invited to wear their pajamas for the traditional pajama swim.
On Aug. 14, there will be a village trip to Waldemeer. Buses will leave the village at 9 a.m. Wichlacz advised those interested to stop down to the beach for information. This is open to the village and the other recreation programs in the district.
The beach season will end on Aug. 24. That day there will be a community carnival beginning at 5:30 p.m. There will be games and food for a small cost. The proceeds of the carnival will go to the Sweet family who lost their home to an explosion and fire recently.
Also on Aug. 24, there will be a community picnic. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to pass. At the end of the event an award ceremony will take place for those who have taken swimming lessons.
