I'm writing in response to Paul Christopher's commentary (July 30).
Paul refers to himself extensively in this personal pronoun extravaganza. His own authoritarian tone, mental gymnastics, and indefensible, sweeping generalizations betray a soul in search of God and of true enlightenment. However, so many miss the target by only 12 inches. That's the distance between the head, or mind and the heart.
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, Christ Jesus, that whosoever trusts in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16
As an Orthodox Christian, I know that all of Paul's many questions can be definitively answered through serious study, through prayer and, most importantly, through a change of heart known as repentance. Repentance is more than sorrow for sins, although this is certainly included. It is a change of heart through which God replaces self as the master of one's life.
"But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." I Cor. 2:14
