Olympics: Suhr in pole vault final today

August 6, 2012
The OBSERVER

If your mind drifts to London around 2 p.m. today, you will not be alone.

Thousands of area residents will have hopes for gold when Fredonia native Jenn Suhr competes in the women's pole-vaulting finals of the Summer Olympic games. Suhr made the finals after only one jump - 4.55 meters or 14-feet-9 - on Saturday.

She is competing today against 11 others with Yelena Isinbayeva of Russia, her main rival. She's the one who came out on top in Beijing four years ago.

Signs of support - just like four years ago - fill area yards to cheer on a local hero.

Today's a big day - in world pole vaulting, for Jenn Suhr and our region. This is special - and something to cherish.
