Making a change is never easy - especially when it involves mergers in this area. But volunteers and members of the Brocton and Portland Fire Departments are working toward this in an effort to better serve its residents.
During a meeting last month, many in attendance spoke in favor of doing what was in the best interests of all concerned.
"The time is now," said Brocton firefighter Jim Rizzo. "This is the time when we need to pull together as one. Why have two separate buildings, two separate sets of utility bills? This is the time when we can finally come together; I'd say there's never been a better time."
More discussion is planned, but there was little dissent about moving in this direction for the future.
That, for now, is promising.
