Irene Woodcock

Irene Woodcock, 98 years old, of Herbert Star Apartments of Brocton, New York passed away Saturday morning August 4, 2012 at Absolut at West-field, Westfield New York where she had been a resident for the past six months.

She was born May 4, 1914 in Tryonville, Pa., the daughter of the late Glenn and Lulu Flanagan Streeter.

Irene had made her home in the Brocton - Fredonia area for the past 80 years.

She owned and operated a grape farm in the Fredonia area with her late husband Edwin for over 60 years. She was also a 70-year member of the Fredonia First United Methodist Church where she remained an active member. She also belonged to the Rebekah Lodge of Fredonia, New York and was also a member of the Chautauqua County Home Extension.

Irene is survived by one son, Ray (Shirley) Woodcock of Tarentum, Pa.; and one daughter Nancy (Terrance) Town of Spencerport, New York,; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Woodcock of Hookstown Pa., Cynthia McVay of Wichita Falls, Texas, Jeanette Hoover of Honey Brook Pa., Danielle Kariotis of Lower Burrell, Pa., Julie Tisinger of Arnold, MD, Jill England of Columbia, MD, Shawn Mierzwa of Frederick, MD and Deanna Mierzwa of Erie, Pa. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin C. Woodcock, whom she married on August 15, 1933 and who passed away in 1994; one daughter, Diane Mierzwa; and one sister, Edith Davidson.

Funeral services will be private and there will be no prior visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Fredonia First United Methodist Church, 25 Church St., Fredonia, NY 14063. A memorial service in her memory will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Fredonia on September 1st, 2012 at 12 p.m. (noon). Arrangements were made and conducted by the Morse Funeral Home of Brocton, N.Y..
