A graphite mining corporation will be moving into the former Nog plant on Central Avenue in Brocton. The company, Cal Graphites Corp. of Ontario, Canada will be processing graphite, which is used as a lubricant for various types of equipment. According to Mayor Donald McFadden, rumors that graphite is an explosive and the towers used for processing it will be 80 feet high are untrue.
Thirty years ago - 1982
Jeff Vogt of Dunkirk has announced his candidacy as the endorsed Right to Life Party nominee for State Assembly in the 150th District. Mr. Vogt, 20, is a student at Wadhams Hall Seminary College in Ogdensburg and is currently the county chairman of the party and a state committeeman representing the 34th Congressional District.
Forty years ago - 1972
Dr. Robert L. Heichberger, a professor in the education department, has been chosen as executive assistant to Fredonia State University College President Dallas K. Beal.

Franklin H. Hazard, a 1931 graduate of Dunkirk High School, returns to Dunkirk next month as superintendent of this city's public schools.
