Pat Coughlin Tribute

There will be a tribute to Pat Coughlin during this weekend's Summer Sizzle hockey tournament in Jamestown.

Pat was a well-liked member of the Dunkirk-Fredonia community. Before tonight's first game of the tournament - at approximately 6:15 p.m. - the Coughlin family will take part in the ceremonial puck drop. Afterwards, there will be a moment of silence.

Swim Club

The Hammerehead Swim Club will hold early registration on Aug. 13 and Aug. 14 from 4:30-6 p.m. at the Fredonia State University Pool in Steel Hall.

Matteson-Kempo Karate free program

Matteson-Kempo Karate is offering a free recreation program to all students who are enrolled in any of the Chautauqua County schools.

The program runs from Sept. 4-30 and is open to anyone ages 4-18. It will take place at the Family Martial Arts Center, 355 Central Ave., Fredonia.

TAE KWON DO schedule: ages 10-18

Tuesday and Thursday: 7-8:30 p.m.

SELF DEFENSE schedule: ages 10-18

Tuesday and Thursday: 5:30-7 p.m.

All student's will be taught the fundamentals of the martial arts. If at the end of the program they are interested in registering, the Dojo will offer a promotional special. No families will be turned away no matter their financial situation.

Regular sessions accept all ages for the Recreation program and also offer classes for all ages. Parent or guardian pay $5 per month with child registration.

Fall Soccer Signups for Westfield, Ripley, Brocton and Mayville

There is still time to sign up for fall ;ocal youth soccer program. Applications can be picked up and turned in at the Village of Westfield window in the Eason Hall, 23 Elm St.

Applications can be mailed in. Signups are for children ages 4-11. For children turning 4 by Sept. 4 and not turning 12 until Oct. 28). Games will begin Sept. 8 and end Oct. 27.

The fee is $20 for the first child, $15 for the second and $10 for the third (max. of $45 per family), but scholarships are available if needed.

Gary Richardson was the overall winner on a tiebreaker over Tony Nicosia after both men shot a new league course record 76 at South Hills Country Club.

The old record of 77 was held by Al Etzel and Paul Olkowski. Other golfers breaking 80 were Butch Mackowiak (77), Ed Tofil (78) and Joe Michalski (79). Mackowiak, Michalski and Richardson each shot 37 for the low front nine score while Tofil shot 37 for the low back nine score. Alex Deering won the B-Flight. John Slaughter won the C-Flight on a tiebreaker over John Bongiovanni, Dan Kaszuba and Ron Szach. Pat Weaver won the D-Flight. Winner of the Commissioner's Award was Bruce Chrabasz.

Wednesday Morning Ladies Purple Posse League - This week's game was the best that two can do. The Purple Posse will be playing again on Aug. 15. The game will be pull the tees, meeting at 9:30 a.m., teeing off at 10 a.m. New members are always welcome.

Pro Bats Yankees 2, Gowanda Brewers 1

Winston Woodard spun a gem, scattering five hits with three strikeouts in the final game of the season.

Brent Thompson relieved Woodard in the seventh getting the final three outs on six pitches. The Yankees defense was flawless as Steve Pantano led the way, recording seven assists and three put outs.

He also drove in both runs with a double in the third inning.

The Monnies were led by Terry Frazier and Joe Polichetti who both had three hits. Rick Zappie and Nick Sliwa added two hits. Mike Privitera picked up the win on the mound.

Matt Nickle, Dan Nickle, Brandon Torrance and Zack Mleczko all had two hits. Tim Wdowiasz picked up the loss on the mound.

Moniuszko Club 12, Rookies 0

The Monnies were led by Jona Bienko's three hits while Devin Carlson and Colton Farnham added two hits. Mike Privitera picked up the win on the mound.

Jeremy McAfee picked up the loss on the mound and Tim Gornikiewicz had the only hit for Rookies.

Moniuszko Club 19, Larry's Cantina 14

Ryan Hall had four hits for the Monnies. Mike Privitera, Matt Siracuse, and Devin Carlson had three hits. Mike Privitera picked up the win.
