Twenty years ago - 1992

Wally Baker of Silver Creek has started an ambulance service for pets. With the former Silver Creek Emergency Squad ambulance he purchased from the squad, Baker will transport dogs and cats to and from veterinarian offices. The ambulance is neatly lettered, "Baker's Pet Medical Transport." Baker says his idea was born from need such as older persons calling and asking him to take their pet to the vet and also as a way to transport large animals that are injured.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Chautauqua County's new commissioner of public health, Dr. Robert Berke, 37, of Knowlton, Que., Canada began his duties in Mayville on Aug. 2. As a part-time commissioner with a salary of $22,000 a year, Dr. Berke also will maintain a private medical practice in Mayville. County Executive Joseph Gerace said he feels the county is fortunate to obtain a man of Dr. Berke's qualifications.

Forty years ago - 1972

Marine Lance Cpl. Victoria Ostrye took first place honors in the Intramural Standard Pistol Match at the National Rifle Association matches in Yuma, Ariz. She also came in first in the rapid fire. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Ostrye of Forestville.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Michael P. Sikora has been appointed chairman of the banquet to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the First Ward Falcon Club. The banquet is planned for October.
