Nancy Taaffe won the Tri-County Country Club Women’s Club Championship recently. For Taaffe, pictured above at left with Dirk Hartman, it was her 36th title. Pictured above, at right, with Hartman is Dan Vona, the overall men’s champion. In the Championship Flight, Jim Azzarella Jr. took first and was followed by Fred Mosca Jr. Other results are as follows: Presidents Flight: Mike McMasters was in first while Mark Ellis was in second. Vice Presidents Flight: Dan Smith was followed by Ron Taylor. Treasurers Flight: Bob Mergenhagen was followed by Chuck Feldman. Merri Carol Hall came in second behind Taaffe.
The NCCS varsity baseball squad opened the 2012 campaign by defeating St. Vincent's of Buffalo in the first game of the St. Francis High School Pre-Season Tournament.
The Monarchs scored seven runs in the first two innings and cruised to victory. Noah Fleckenstein (double), Bryan Dempsey (triple) and Charlie Roth each had two hits and scored twice in the win.
Daniel Barnes was near flawless on the mound, striking out 11 of 12 batters he faced, allowing two hits in an abbreviated four-inning game.

Friday Night Couples' League - The format was a scramble with a 'Choose a Club Twist'.
Tied for first with a score of 34 were the teams of Chris and Priscilla Penfold and Jim and Sandy Korzeniewski and John and Paula Lakas and Pat and Bobbi Deering.
Tied for second with 35 were Jack and Carol Hood and Paul and Theresa Leone and Dennis and Cheryl Gawronski. The third place team, with a 36, was Bob and Jan Manning and Larry Wollert and Sue Slate.

Moniuszko Club 8, M & M Cleaners 7 - The Monnies were led by Terry Frazier's three hits and Rick Zappie's two hits. Ryan Hall, Joe Polichetti and Connor Farnham all had a hit each. Mike Privitera picked up the win on the mound.
M & M Cleaners was led by Bryant Watts, who had three hits, including a home run, and Robert Calph, who had three hits. Bob Honaker took the loss in the circle.
CCAA Pre-Season Volleyball Coaches' Meeting
There will be a meeting for all CCAA volleyball coaches today, at the Ashville BOCES, starting at 6:30 p.m.
Visitors Bureau Announces Annual Golf Tournament
Chautauqua - The Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau announces plans for the 16th annual golf tournament held in honor of CCVB founding director, Donald Hogan.
The tournament will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Chautauqua Golf Club, beginning at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start. Contestants will compete for first, second and third-place prizes, as well as longest drive and closest to the pin awards. The cost is $80 per person and includes a lunch buffet.
Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Donald Hogan Tourism Scholarship Program. This program awards between three to four scholarships to area seniors each year based on an essay outlining the importance and relevance of tourism in Chautauqua County. Since its inception in 2001, the program has awarded $36,000 in scholarships to 60 area students.
Donald Hogan was the director of Chautauqua County Vacationlands Association, forerunner of Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau, until 1989. The Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau, a not-for-profit agency, is the official tourism promotion agency for Chautauqua County and New York State's Chautauqua-Allegheny Region including Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Allegany Counties.
