Twenty years ago - 1992

The play "Traitor's Gate" by Jim Fox of Mayville will begin a nine-week run following its world premier at the Burbage Theater in Los Angeles, Calif., on Aug. 21. Mr. Fox is Mayville bureau chief for the OBSERVER and is the author of a number of plays which have been produced in New York and North Carolina. This is his first production in California.

Thirty years ago - 1982

This year's Fredonia Farm Festival queens are: Renee Richir of Adams Road, Fredonia; Sandra Marsh of 9 Berry St., Fredonia; and Brenda Butler Lupkin, 327 Canary St., Dunkirk. All are married and have some knowledge of farm life.

Forty years ago - 1972

Teachers hired by the Silver Creek Central School Board of Education are: Mrs. Marjorie Foxton of Irving, elementary teacher; Mrs. Elizabeth Bradley of Silver Creek, secondary English; William Thompson of West Seneca, secondary social studies; and Mrs. Carole Cotten of Westfield, girls' physical education.

Fifty years ago - 1962

National Football League Commissioner Pete Rozelle turned the first shovelful of earth in Canton, Ohio, officially beginning construction on the long-awaited pro-football Hall of Fame. The building, estimated to cost about $360,000, will be completed in about one year.
