Twenty years ago - 1992

A front page photo shows Rebecca Fairbanks of Fredonia, a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints youth group, trimming shrubbery in Dunkirk's Washington Park as part of the Adopt the Park service program. About 15-20 members of the youth group started their project under the guidance of park supervisors. A group leader said the children are planning to return to the park every two weeks and hope other youth groups in the area follow their lead.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Construction will begin today on an addition to a building that will house a new Quality Market on Central Avenue in Silver Creek. A 60- by 89-foot addition will be added to the concrete block building which formerly housed the Acme Market. The Silver Creek Quality Market will mark the 10th store of the franchise to open in Chautauqua County.

Forty years ago - 1972

Walter Botts, 72, who posed for the famous Uncle Sam "I Want You" poster of World War II, died recently.

Fifty years ago - 1962

The Very Rev. Dr. Lorenzo D'Agostino SSE, principal of Cardinal Mindszenty High School for the past three years, has been assigned to rejoin the faculty of St. Michael's College in Vermont. The Very Rev. James E. Coombs, SSE, former dean of men at St. Michael's College, has been appointed to succeed the Rev. Dr. D'Agostino.
