FORESTVILLE - Martha L. Howard, 85, a secretary-bookkeeper for Howard Lime Spreading Service, where she worked for 30 years, died Monday, August 20, 2012 at Buffalo General Hospital in Buffalo, NY.
She was born October 13, 1926 in Gowanda, NY the daughter of Silas Guy and Ruth (Meyer) Matteson.
Martha graduated from South Dayton High School before going to work for Hills & Matteson as secretary bookkeeper for many years before she and her husband purchased the business to establish Ho-wards. She was a member of the Forestville Wesleyan Church and a past member of the South Dayton Free Methodist Church.

She will be remembered for her ever present smile and sense of humor, her selflessness and love for her family.
She is survived by her husband Richard J. Howard of Forestville, NY, whom she married on Sept. 30, 1946; a son, David R. (Nancy) Howard of South Dayton, NY, two daughters, Sandra L. (Steve) Rountree of St. Petersburg, FL, Judith L. (Jim) Rose; her grandchildren: Shawna M. Rose of South Dayton, NY, Shawn D. (Heidi) Howard of Cherry Creek, NY, Crystal G. Rose of South Dayton, NY, Christopher R. (Jessica) Howard of South Dayton, NY, 10 great grandchildren; Christian, Jackson, Sierra, Christin, Zachary, Sadie, Craig, Jaiden, Alana, Cameron and a sister, Virginia B. Gier of South Dayton, NY.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary E. Hills.
Visitation will be held at Hills Funeral Chapel, 478 Balcom Corners, South Dayton, NY. on Sunday from 2-4 P.M. and 7-9 P.M.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 27, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Forestville Wesleyan Church, Prospect Road, Forestville, NY. The Rev. Bruce Ellis of Forestville Wesleyan Church will be officiating. Burial will be in the Villenova Cemetery in South Dayton.
