Police chief's son in motor vehicle accident
The OBSERVER recently filed a Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request with the Village of Fredonia Police Department regarding an accident on July 24 allegedly involving an unregistered vehicle in the name of Fredonia Chief of Police, Bradley C. Meyers. The vehicle was driven by his son, Stephen G. Meyers, 18, of Fredonia, who allegedly drove the car head on into another vehicle on Newton Street.
Around 7:15 p.m., Stephen G. Meyers, the driver of a 2003 Dodge van, made a right turn from East Main Street heading north on Newton Street. A vehicle traveling south on Newton Street driven by Kathy Forster of Fredonia was slowing for a traffic light. The vehicle driven by Meyers allegedly entered the southbound lane of Newton Street, causing a head on collision with Forster's vehicle. Airbags were deployed in both vehicles.
Meyers sustained minor facial injuries from the airbag, and Forster complained of pain in her wrist and thumb. Fredonia Rescue was dispatched, but both refused medical treatment according to the report.
Meyers was charged with failure to keep right and operating an unregistered vehicle.
Both vehicles were towed to Mancuso's Service, which issued a report requested by Fredonia police to check the mechanical condition of the brakes. On July 25, Mancuso's reported the brake reservoir was full of fluid and the brake pedal had sufficient pressure, indicating no problems present with the braking system.
Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office
HANOVER - On Monday, a Silver Creek woman was charged with second-degree harassment after an alleged altercation.
Around 5:05 p.m., deputies and Silver Creek Police Department responded to an address on Routes 5 and 20 in the town of Hanover for the report of a disorderly person. Investigation revealed there had been an altercation at that address and Debra Feltman, 43, of Silver Creek, was charged with second-degree harassment for allegedly shoving another person.
Feltman was issued an appearance ticket and will answer the charge in the Town of Hanover Court.
JAMESTOWN - The Chautauqua County Department of Social Services received a report of Keith L. Carlson, 54, and Julie A. Carlson, 51, both of 413 James Ave. of Jamestown, possibly having unreported income.
Upon investigation, it was found the parties did not report approximately $18,000 in income to the DSS. Both parties were in receipt of public benefits during the month of June 2012, that they allegedly were not entitled to. The two were issued appearance tickets on charges of petit larceny and misuse of food stamps and are scheduled to appear in City of Jamestown Court at a later date.

District Attorney, David W. Foley recently announced the following pleas and sentences in Chautauqua County Court.
Russell A. Maring, 27, of 296 Winsor St., #3, Jamestown, was sentenced to three to six years in state prison for burglary in the third degree.
Mark K. Holland Jr., 32, of Hazzard Street, Jamestown, was sentenced to two years determinate in state prison with two years post release supervision for criminal sale of controlled substance in the third degree.
Michael L. Nesmith, 34, of 29 Carl St., Rochester, was sentenced to two years in state prison with two years post release supervision for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree.
Richard Catanese, 23, of 219 Newland Ave., Jamestown, was sentenced to 18 months in state prison with one year post release supervision for attempted criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree.
David S. Kuzinski, 50, of 589 Bradley Road, Russell, Pa., was sentenced to one to three years in state prison for grand larceny in the third degree.
Michael Pacheco, 43, of 24 W. 14th St., Jamestown, was sentenced to 18 months in jail for burglary in the third degree and assault in the third degree.
Nathan A. Kohler, 25, of 110 S. Gazelle St., Dunkirk, was sentenced to nine months in jail for felony DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree consecutive to nine months in jail for felony violation of probation. He was also sentenced to 36 months of ignition interlock device and one year driver's license revocation.
Keith Muniz, 23, of 13 Mattison St., Fredonia, was sentenced to four months weekend work release and six months probation for burglary in the third degree.
Joseph A. Smith, 26, of 7 Burgess St., Silver Creek, was sentenced to five years probation, 60 months ignition interlock device and a $1,500 fine for felony DWI.
Joel R. Tefft, 35, of 73 Union St., Westfield, was sentenced to three years probation, a $1,000 fine and 21 months of ignition interlock device for misdemeanor DWI.
Silver Creek Village Court
John D. Strychalski, 51, of Angola, was arraigned for felony driving while intoxicated, unlawful possession of marijuana and possession of open container in a motor vehicle. He was released on his own recognizance to return to court Oct. 3.
