Ripley Free Library's Annual Chicken Barbecue will be held today at Firemen's Field, North State Street, from noon until sold out. Meal includes delicious chicken, macaroni salad, beans, desert and a drink for $8.50. Tickets available at the door.
Portland railroad closings
Several roads in the town of Portland will be closed due to Norfolk & Southern railroad crossing repairs from Aug. 27 through Sept. 1.
The affected areas are Walker Road, Pecor Street and Matthews Road. Drivers are advised to used the marked detour or other alternate routes around the work zone and to expect some delays in the area of construction.
Portland Board of Fire Commissioners meet Tuesday
A special meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Portland Fire District will be held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. for the purpose of review and formulation of the 2013 Fire District budget and any other business that may come before the board. The public is encouraged and welcome to attend all meetings of the board.
Brad Anderson Recognition Committee to meet Tuesday
