Editor, OBSERVER:
September is quickly approaching and in our house like many others, this means gearing up for back to school.
For the past 12 years my brother, sister and I have helped our mother with the Auxiliary of Brooks Memorial Hospital's Ready for School Campaign. I have always given my mother grief about the condition of our living room during this time of year while items are sorted and prepared for delivery to local school districts. This campaign is truly something that I am proud to be a part of knowing how important it is to so many families, and hey, I wouldn't be a true son if I weren't giving my mother a hard time about something, now would I?
The Ready for School Campaign assists families with their back to school needs. I know that in our family of three children it gets very expensive to get us all set for going back to school. That is why I believe there is no donation that is too small to help a child get ready for their school year.
A little bit goes a long way toward helping a student in need. In addition to monetary donations, we are collecting new or slightly used clothing for all seasons in the Brooks Memorial Hospital lobby until Friday. Please remember we will accept clothing for infants through high school aged children. All cash donations received will be put toward items that students need to be prepared for the school year, even something as simple as a new pair of underwear. This program wouldn't be successful without the help of each and every one of its supporters, such as yourself.
These contributions will be kept confidential; we will accomplish this by working with the Dunkirk, Fredonia and Northern Chautauqua Catholic school systems. It will be on their recommendation who will qualify for assistance.
We are fortunate to live in a community that stays aware of people's changing situations and gives everything it has to help its neighbors through difficult times. I would like to thank you in advance for your anticipated support.
Checks may be sent to: The Auxiliary of Brooks Memorial Hospital, 529 Central Ave., Dunkirk NY, 14048.
IAN MULDOWNEY,
Chairman of the Ready For School Campaign
