Possible animal cruelty under investigation
Fredonia resident charged with aggravated DWI
PHELPS - On Monday, James L. Priv-ateer, 24, of Fredonia was charged by troopers based at Junius Ponds for aggravated driving while intoxicated. He was originally stopped for speeding on the Thruway.
His blood alcohol level was reported to be .20 percent. He was arraigned in the Town of Phelps Court and committed to the Ontario County Jail in lieu of $1,500 cash or $3,000 property bail.
Doing the right thing
YOUNGSTOWN - Trooper Ed Stefik of the New York State Police went above and beyond the call of duty. On Monday, he received a complaint from Marn Weld on Lake Road that her mailbox had been damaged.
Stefik investigated and exhausted all leads. He felt compassion for the elderly woman, bought her a new mailbox and installed it himself. Weld tried to pay him but he refused.
When asked why he did it, Stefik replied, "Any one of us would have done the same thing. She was a nice woman who needed help and that is why we do what we do. It was the right thing to do."
State Police at Fredonia
IRVING - On Monday, Orlando Robles, 43, of Dunkirk was charged with driving while intoxicated. He was pulled over on Allegany Road for excessive window tint.
Robles reportedly failed several field sobriety tests. He was transported to state police barracks in Fredonia where he provided a breath sample that was reported to be .16 percent.
He was processed, issued tickets returnable to the Town of Hanover Court and released to a sober individual.
