Steven C. Snyder

Steven C. Snyder, 55, of Dunkirk died Wednesday afternoon (Aug. 29, 2012) at the Chautauqua County Home in Dunkirk.

He was born Nov. 10, 1956 in Ithaca, the son of Virginia (Hannum) Snyder of Fort Myers, Fla., and the late Clarence H. "Bert" Snyder.

A lifelong resident of Dunkirk, Steven was a graduate of Dunkirk High School, Class of 1976.

He had been employed for more than 30 years by the Carriage House (formerly Red Wing).

He was a member of the Dunkirk Moose Lodge 89 and the First United Methodist Church of Dunkirk.

Steven was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, and the Dunkirk High School Marauders football and baseball teams.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Sharon (Thies) Snyder, whom he married May 26, 1984; two sons, Jonathan (Alexandra) Snyder of Alexandria, Va., and Andrew Snyder of Dunkirk; one grand-daughter, Natalie Snyder; one sister, Martha (Carl) Richter of Webster; two brothers, Thomas (Mary) Snyder of Loudonville and Edward (Nancy) Snyder of Erie, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles E. and Florence Hannum; and his paternal grandparents, Clarence C. and Hattie Snyder.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock in the First United Methodist Church in Dunkirk. Pastor Judy Cole and Rev. Clifford Cliver will officiate. Burial will be in Laona Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Dunkirk, Roswell Park Cancer Institute or a charity of one's choice.
