Union City Country Club

Wednesday Travel League - Gary Richardson earned his 20th career tour victory by posting the low round of 85 at Union City Country Club in Union City, Pa. John Bongiovanni had the low front nine with 42 while Richardson's 41 led the back nine. Mike Willoughby and Doug Grace won the B and C Flights, respectively. Winner of the Commissioner's Award was Tony Nasca, Sr.

Pictured is the start of Westfield’s Annual Tour of Chautauqua Bike Ride held on Saturday, Aug. 11. More than 160 riders registered for the ride that started and ended at the Eason Hall in Westfield. Riders enjoying the ride and luncheon afterwards were from Canada, New York City, Chautauqua County, Erie, Pa., the Buffalo area, Warren and Girard, Pa. areas, Ohio and Syracuse.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight - Richardson (Nos. 1 & 13), Ken Kaus (Nos. 3 & 16), Joe Michalski (No. 6) and John Waterman (No. 18); B Flight - Dennis Gawronski Sr. (Nos. 1, 10 & 16) and Dan Kaszuba (No. 11); C Flight - Grace (Nos. 2, 15 & 17), Gary Hazelton (No. 5), John Slaughter (No. 12), Dave Miller (No. 13) and Doug Keith (No. 14).

Closest to the pin: Joe Bifaro (No. 4), Bongiovanni (No. 8), Slaughter (No. 12) and Butch Mackowiak (No. 14). Top point winners were Slaughter (42), Keith (28) and Gawronski and Grace(15 each). Season points leaders: 1) Bongiovanni (331.5), 2) Richardson (325), 3) Ron Rys (275), 4) Ed Tofil (267), 5) Waterman (243.5).

Next week the league makes its first visit to Kane Country Club in Kane, Pa. First tee time is at 10 a.m. Golfers need to sign up with Butch Mackowiak (679-4027) by Monday.

Hillview

The Women Who Golf For Fun ended their season playing "best ball". Lowest score shot by the team of Carol Kowalewski, Nancy Yocum, Priscilla Penfold and Cheryl Gawronski. Coming in second was the team of Julie Ortendahl, Theresa Leone and Dodo Dudek. Third place was held by the team of Bobbie Deering, Rosemary Tibbetts, Colleen Borzilleri and Pat Daniel. In fourth place was the team of Kathy Kolo, Carol Hudson and Joyce Cullen.

Golfer of the week was Kathy Kolo while Joyce Cullen placed second. Sandi Gloss was a special guest at a luncheon held at Shorewood after golf. Plans were made for next year, which will open the first Wednesday of May, teeing off at 10 a.m. The women will continue to golf, non-league on Wednesdays teeing off at 10 a.m., weather permitting.

Correction

Tri-Dunkirk

Jennifer Davis, a Fredonia resident, took first place the 35-39 age division in the intermediate race of the Tri-Dunkirk. Her time was 3:11.31.

Also, Patty Gabreski took first place in the intermediate triathlon in the 55-59 age group.
