Driver injured in delivery truck accident
CHARLOTTE - An accident Friday on Route 60 in the town of Charlotte has left a driver injured.
Robert R. Wilson, 20, of Westfield was operating a delivery truck owned by Johnson Estate Winery of Westfield south on Route 60 at 12:30 p.m. After interviewing witnesses and conducting an investigation, police believe Wilson fell asleep at the wheel causing the vehicle to go off the west side of the roadway where it struck a utility pole causing it to break about eight feet from the ground. The vehicle then continued through a lawn and down into a deep embankment surrounded by trees.
Wilson was transported by Cassadaga Fire to WCA Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Route 60 was closed for an hour while power lines were removed from the road. Charges are pending.
Baby-sitter leaves five home alone
WESTFIELD - Five children age 1 to 9, under the care of a baby-sitter, were left unattended in the village this week.
According to village police, the 16-year-old baby-sitter has been charged with five counts of endangering the welfare of a child after the teen left the house on Washington Street and the children unattended. Police were made aware of the situation on Tuesday by a caller. Upon arrival children aged 1, 2, 5, 8 and 9 were found without any adult supervision.
The accused will be in village court at a later date.
Westfield Police Department
Joshua D. Mccune, 26, of Watson Avenue was charged with second-degree harassment, unlawful imprisonment and three counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief on Aug. 29. At 11:13 p.m. police responded to the report of a domestic in progress on Mccune's address.
Upon arrival, the victim alleged that her husband had damaged property inside their residence and used physical force to prevent her from leaving the residence. Mccune was taken into custody, arraigned in the Village of Westfield Court and released on his own recognizance.
Fredonia Police Department
Joe P. Carney, 21, Kenneth Alexander, 19, and Justin E. Seebold, 20, all of East Birchwood Drive were charged with violating the noise ordinance on Aug. 24. At 12:46 a.m. police were called to their residence for a complaint of a loud party. When police arrived they could hear loud music coming from inside. When they knocked on the door, the lights were turned off and no one came to the door. The next morning, police went back to the residence. All three males were issued appearance tickets.
Stacy L. Schwab, 39, of Angola was charged with a warrant on Aug. 28. Evans Police Department picked up Schwab and transferred her to Irving where Fredonia Police took her into custody. Schwab was arraigned and remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $25,000 property.
Zachary S. Citron, 18, of Grissom Hall, SUNY Fredonia was charged with unlawful possession of alcohol under 21 and having an open container on Aug. 30. Police observed Citron on Temple Street at 12:15 a.m. with an open container. He was released on an appearance ticket.
Jason T. Guy, 21, of Day Street was charged with violating the sewer ordinance on Aug. 30. At 1:17 a.m. police observed Guy urinating on a sidewalk on Day Street. He was released on an appearance ticket.
Michael R. Kinsella, 20, of Canadaway Street was charged with unlawful possession of alcohol under 21 and having an open container on Aug. 30. At 12:04 a.m. police observed him walking on Temple Street with an open container. He was released on an appearance ticket.
Jeffrey L. Thompson, 31, of Maple Avenue was charged with driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with a BAC of .08 or more, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding on Aug. 30. At 2:43 a.m. Thompson was stopped for going 43 mph in a 30 mph zone on East Main Street. Thompson was observed to have slurred speech and had an odor of intoxicants. He failed several field sobriety tests and was found to have a BAC of .17. He was released on cash bail.
Kyle R. Karpanek, 18, of Cheektowaga was charged with unlawful possession of alcohol under 21 and having an open container on Aug. 29. At 11:19 p.m. police observed Karpanek on Day Street with an open container. He was released on an appearance ticket.
Donald J. Wilson Jr., 23, of East Main Street was charged with third-degree assault on Aug. 31. At 12:17 a.m. police responded to the area of 50 West Main St. for the report of a fight. Wilson allegedly punched another male in the mouth causing him to receive four stitches. Wilson was released on $500 bail.
Derek M. Burgholzer, 21, of Spencerport was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct on Aug. 31. At 1:51 a.m. police responded to a fight at 24 Water St. Burgholzer was being removed from a bar by staff and became combative. When police tried to place him under arrest, Burgholzer resisted and fought police. He was released on $500 bail.
