Editor, OBSERVER:
I wish to comment on the village of Brocton's interest in the trap-neuter-return program for feral cats.
We have, in recent years, had many more feral cats than in the past. Some of them are dropped off by owners who no longer want them and are not willing to do the appropriate thing and take them to a shelter. As an animal lover I feel badly for these animals.
I am sure there are many people who try to help with this problem but I know of one person who has single handedly trapped, neutered or spayed and returned 17 neighborhood feral cats in the last few years. She is my neighbor and friend, Mary E. Barnes. All of the cost for this has been shouldered by her. I have never known anyone as unselfish and caring as Mary is.
I commend our community for showing interest in doing the right thing for these helpless animals and the citizens of Brocton. I also want to thank the people, like Mary E. Barnes, who have been doing the right thing all along!
