Ellicottville Historical Society meets Sept. 11
The Ellicottville Histori-cal Society will meet Sept. 11 at 7:30 at the Ellicottville Memorial Library. "The History of our Schools" will be the lecture presented by former employees and students of the Ellicottville schools. The event is free and refreshments will be served. Training session on identification and reporting child abuse
A state-mandated training session for professionals on identifying and reporting child abuse, maltreatment and neglect will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Hewes Educational Center, Large Group Room, Route 394, Ashville.
The training is required for all applying for a provisional or permanent certificate of license valid for ad-ministrative or supervisory service, classroom teaching service, or school service.
In addition to teachers and school administrators, the mandate affects school physicians, nurses, therapists and others in the fields of health care and education.
Participants should bring their license or certificate number with them if possible. A State Education De-partment certificate of completion will be provided for each course participant. A $30 fee will be charged for this workshop. To register, call 1-800-344-9611 or 672-4371 ext. 2145. Participants are asked to be at the training 15 minutes prior to start time. The session is provided by the School & Societal Perspectives Program of the Erie 2-Chautauqua-Catta-raugus BOCES.
Brenda Hayes to appear on Senior Report
Senior Report with Reed Powers will have Brenda Hayes as the guest on Saturday's television program. Dr. Hayes is a personal coach and will discuss self development.
The live, call-in program airs from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays. Individuals may call 753-5225 during that time with questions, comments or a shout-out. The program is rebroadcast each day at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. for some communities.
Senior Report is shown live Saturday mornings on Time Warner cable systems for the following communities: Brocton, Cassadaga, Chautauqua, Fredonia, Mayville, North Harmony, Portland, Ripley, Sherman, Stockton and Westfield on Channel 5. In Dunkirk, Forestville, Hanover, Irving and Silver Creek the program is on channel 19.
Leon Volunteer Fire Company events Saturday at firehall
The Leon Volunteer Fire Company will host its inaugural open house and demonstration day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Leon Firehall. The event is open to the public and will include several activities, including demonstrations of firefighting and rescue operations, a Jaws of Life demonstration and a state roll over safety demonstration. Fire equipment will also be available to check fire extinguishers, demonstrate the proper way to use extinguishers and offer for sale other life-saving equipment, including extinguishers and smoke detectors. There will also be a giveaway of Amish items to benefit the fire department. Items include handmade wood items and furniture, quilts and items sold at local shops. Old fire extinguishers can also be brought in to be checked. A small fee is charged to check extinguishers.
Brocton American Legion Auxiliary meets
Brocton American Legion Post 434 Auxiliary will have its first fall meeting Tuesday at the legion. All members are urged to attend to help with future plans.
