14th annual Taste
of Fredonia Saturday
The 14th Annual Taste of Fredonia will be held Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. during the Red, White & Blues Festival in the Barker Common.
This event is sponsored by the Fredonia Chamber of Commerce and will feature local restaurants with their tantalizing foods.
There will be a vote of "The Best Taste" and an award given to the winner.
Cassadaga Job Corps will host tour and
informational meeting
A tour and informational session will be held at the Cassadaga Job Corps Academy, 8115 Glasgow Road, Cassadaga, Thursday at 10 a.m. Anyone interested in learning more about Job Corps, the programs they offer and about life on campus is welcome to attend. Job Corps provides young people, age 16-24, with career technical training and the education needed to enter a career in a high demand occupation. Applicants must meet federal admissions criteria for income and readiness. All students accepted attend Job Corps on a full scholarship and must remain committed to a rigorous education and training program to remain enrolled. Job Corps offers training in the healthcare and construction industries and enrolls both residential and non-residential students from throughout Chautau-qua County. September Ghost Tour
The Village Haunts and the Dunkirk Historical Lighthouse and Veterans Park Museum are holding their monthly fundraising event on Sept. 29 from 7 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased at the Lighthouse or online at www.dunkirklighthouse.com. Only 9 tickets are available for this event. The October fund-raising events will be held on Oct. 20, 26 and 27. Check out the website for details. All proceeds benefit the Dunkirk Historical Lighthouse.
Brocton Central School encourages tax
payment by mail.
Brocton Central School has mailed the school tax bills for the 2012-2013 school year. School officials encourage taxpayers to mail their tax payments according to the instructions on the back of the tax bill. Parking is at a premium at school because of renovations. However, if you wish to pay in person, please use the high school doors on the west side of the school just off School Street and park in the visitors' spaces.
Gas prices rise
Average retail gasoline prices in Rochester have risen 4.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.93/g Sunday.
This compares with the national average that has increased 1.4 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.80/g, according to gasoline price website RochesterGasPrices.com.
Including the change in gas prices in Rochester during the past week, prices yesterday were 14.5 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 24.5 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.
