Lake Erie Rumble Demolition Derby set for Saturday

September 6, 2012
The OBSERVER

The first ever Variety Club "Lake Erie Rumble Demolition Derby" to benefit Buffalo Women's and Children's Hospital will be held Saturday at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds. The rain date is Sunday.

The event will feature five major car events, including Iron Man, big cars, '80s and newer, chain and go and small car.

"We're offering more than $8,000 in total prize money and expect to draw some of the top area drivers to the track," event organizer Paul Cambria said.

The demolition derby is a major fundraising expansion for Cambria who pioneered the very successful Halloween party fundraisers seven years ago at the Central Terminal in Buffalo.

"The hospital's needs have never been greater so we thought it was time to step up with new events," Cambria said.

Gates will open at 1 p.m. with the event starting at 4 p.m. Tickets are $7 for bleachers, $10 for upper grandstand and $12 for lower grandstand. All proceeds will go to the Variety Club for the hospital. Tickets may be purchased at the box office the day of the event or by calling the Variety Club at 854-7577.

In addition to the original Variety Club Halloween fundraiser, which is moved to the Connecticut Street Armory this year, another fundraiser will be at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds. Both events are scheduled during October and each has a $2,000 costume prize.
