Michael J. McKinnon Sr.

Michael J. McKinnon Sr. of 1571 Gardenia Lane, Big Pine Key, Fla., died at his home in Fredonia, NY on Sept. 4, 2012.

He was born in Buffalo, NY on Dec. 12, 1950 to Florence "Sis" (Sullivan) and the late Roy McKinnon Sr. of Fredonia, NY.

Michael served his country as a U.S. Marine from 1969 to 1973. Following his discharge, he worked at AL-Tech until he followed his dream of becoming a self-employed contractor, creating Thunderbird General Contracting Inc.

On April 8, 1995, Michael married Pamela (Rose) McKinnon Big Pine Key, Fla.

Besides his wife Pamela, he is survived by his son, Michael (Jennifer Saletta) McKinnon Jr.; and two grandchildren, Brody and Cooper. He is further survived by his brothers, Roy (Marla) McKinnon of Silver Creek, Daniel (Susan) McKinnon of Forestville; a sister, Cindy (Thomas) Brown of Dunkirk, NY; and his Aunt June Poor. Other survivors include several nieces and nephews - John (Lauren) O'Connell, Derek (Katie) McKinnon, Lindsey (Ed) Biondo, Kielly (Brian) Dietzen, Matthew McKinnon and great niece Gwendolyn O'Connell; his mother-in-law, Joan Wedeman; and sister-in-law, Paula Rose.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Roy McKinnon Sr.; two grand-sons, Dawson and Clayton; and his uncle, William Poor.

He was one of the founders of the Northern Chautauqua County Youth Hockey Association (NCCYHA), belonged to both the South Florida Divers' Association and the Dunkirk Yacht Club. One of his favorite places was Forked Lake in the Adirondack Mountains where he enjoyed primitive camping and canoeing.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be very grateful if donations were made to the Northern Chautauqua Youth Hockey Association in Michael's memory.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012 at 6:30 PM. This celebration will take place at the 21 Brix Winery, 6654 West Main Road (Route 20) in Portland, N.Y. (716) 792-2749.

All arrangements have been made by the Fantauzzi Funeral Home, 82 East Main Street, Fredonia, NY.
