BROCTON - The opening day of school went well, the Board of Education was told at its recent meeting. Superintendent John Hertlein said, "It was like another day of school. There were no problems finding the bus or room 212. Thank you to Ms. Olson and Mr. Delcamp."
Hertlein also referred to the capital project. "It is amazing how fast it is going. ... The first thing that will be finished is the cupola and the clock will work."
"It really did go well," middle/high school principal Jason Delcamp agreed. "I am excited about this year."

"We have two outstanding construction managers who are nice to work with. ... The new families were impressed with the buildings," he said.
Elementary principal Sandra Olson expressed the same opinion and added, "Maintenance worked hard this summer."
The board passed a resolution declaring the school buildings ready for the opening of school, based on a walk-through held on Sept. 4 by the building and grounds committee.
Board member Mike Riforgiato commented, "I was honestly impressed. I have never seen a building under construction be so clean."
The board also passed a resolution to acknowledge and accept a Grant-in-aid Award (Bullet Aid) for anti-bullying educational initiatives in the amount of $8,888. State senator Catharine Young secured the funding. Hertlein said, "I've already sent her a thank-you letter."
According to Delcamp, enrollment in grades six through 12 is about 287. Olson said the elementary enrollment was 289.
There will be an open house for parents on Tuesday, Sept. 18 from 6 to 7 p.m.
Prior to the board meeting, a reception was held for some of the teachers in the district. Jody Huber, a first grade teacher was recognized by Business First as an outstanding educator. Maria Sigetti, Amy Gawronski and Chrissy Marsh were honored for attaining tenure.
"Attaining tenure is a major accomplishment," Hertlein said.
In a separate resolution, Hertlein was granted a new 3-year contract beginning July 1, 2012 and ending on June 30, 2015. There was no discussion.
