Fredonia State improved to 2-0 early in the women's tennis season with a 9-0 home win Monday over Wells College.

Julie Coleman (Chautauqua Lake), a freshman playing in her first collegiate match, won her No. 6 singles match by 6-0, 6-0 scores. She also teamed with sophomore Stephanie Thompson (Verona) to win their No. 3 doubles match, 8-0.

"She was No. 1 at Chautauqua Lake," Fredonia State coach Joe Calarco said of Coleman. "She did a very good job. What I'm trying to do is just bring her along. She's a very good singles player and an asset to the squad."

Miller Barmasse, a junior playing at No. 3 singles, was Fredonia State's other 6-0, 6-0 winner.

Other singles winners were junior Jess Johnston (Fredonia), sophomore Sara DiFulvio, junior Molly Zanetti and Thompson.

The Blue Devils are back in action 1 p.m. Saturday vs. Oswego at the Steele Hall courts.
