Dunkirk holds 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

September 11, 2012
The OBSERVER

The annual Sept. 11 Remembrance Ceremony was held at Dunkirk City Hall Tuesday morning. The annual event is organized by the Dunkirk Fire Local 616.

"I'd like to take a moment to remember the firefighters made the resuces of the thousands of strangers that they didn't know," Lt. Matt Hanlon, Union 616 President. "Many of those firefighters entered those buildings knowing they were going to die. They looked at each other and said goodbye."

Hanlon honored the 343 firefighters who died in the attacks 11 years ago by ringing a bell and holding a moment of silence.
