The annual Festival of Grapes opens today in Silver Creek and runs through Sunday. Besides the stomping event, which is planned for tonight, there also are amusement rides, a grape pie sale, a firemen's hose race as well as children's events.
"Whether you're wearing purple, buying grape pies, tasting wines, or just enjoying rides with children or the many interesting crafters that attend it's an old-home week," wrote Kurt Lindstrom, Silver Creek mayor, in the Festival of Grapes special section on Tuesday in the OBSERVER. "It brings back many warm memories as a child topped off by the Grape Festival Parade!"
That parade, by the way, marches through the village at 1 p.m. Sunday. It's a perfect way to conclude a celebration of our region's heritage with the 45th edition of the event.
