Fredonia attorney named to NYS Super Lawyers list

September 14, 2012
The OBSERVER

Fredonia attorney James P. Subjack has again been named to the New York 2012 Super Lawyers Upstate Edition as one of the top lawyers in the area of criminal defense. No more than five percent of the lawyers in the state are selected by Superlawyers.

The upstate edition includes 50 counties north and west of New York City including Erie, Monroe, Onondaga and Albany counties. Selection is based upon a state wide survey of lawyers, independent research to identify outstanding lawyers, evaluation of candidates based upon 12 indicators of peer recognition, professional achievement and a blue ribbon panel review. Only 55 lawyers have been selected for inclusion in this year's edition for criminal defense.

Subjack stated, "I am very pleased to be again recognized by my peers state and region wide to be included among the elite of criminal defense lawyers. I have always throughout my career in both defense and prosecution been fully prepared, thorough and tenacious in my representation."

Subjack was District Attorney of Chautauqua County, first being elected in 1993, the first of his political party to achieve that position and retired in 2005. He is immediate past president of the Criminal Justice Section of the New York State Bar Association having served two years in that position and currently serves on the Executive Committee of that Section which is comprised of approximately 1,500 of the top judges, prosecutors and criminal lawyers of the state.

In 2009, Subjack was elected a fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, the highest distinction that can be achieved in that organization. He has lectured several times both nationally and state-wide on criminal justice issues for the National District Attorneys Association, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the New York State District Attorneys Association and the New York State Bar Association.

Subjack resides in Fredonia with his wife Janel, a Fredonia Village Trustee. They are the parents of two adult children, Michael who recently received a Master's of Fine Arts degree in Broadcast Cinema from the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA and Jeanne, a fourth-year teaching fellow in the Criminal Justice doctoral program at Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, TX.
