WNY Chamber Orchestra to open season Sunday

September 14, 2012
The OBSERVER

On Sunday at 4 p.m. the Western New York Chamber Orchestra opens its 2012-2013 concert season with a program entitled "Musical Portraits."

Under the baton of Music Director and Conductor Glen Cortese, the Orchestra welcomes guest artist John Musto to the King Concert Hall stage for a performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto in E flat, KV. 271 unofficially entitled the "Jeunehomme." In addition to an internationally renowned career as a concert pianist, Mr. Musto is an active composer with recent operatic premiers at the Wolf Trap and Glimmerglass Opera companies, as well as orchestral and chamber compositions for the New York Festival of Song and the Caramoor Festival. This concert marks Mr. Musto's second appearance with the Western New York Chamber Orchestra. He, together with his wife, Metropolitan Opera soprano Amy Burton, opened the Orchestra's 2005 concert season.

Also featured on the program are Claude Debussy's "Children's Corner Suite", Ottorino Respighi's beloved 'Trittico Botticelliano" and George Gershwin's orchestral gem "Lullaby."

The Western New York Chamber Orchestra is the Professional Ensemble-in-Residence at SUNY Fredonia and is comprised of SUNY Fredonia School of Music faculty members as well as professional musicians from the region. Since the mid 1980's WNYCO has brought the world's greatest music to local audiences of all ages.

This concert marks the opening of the inaugural week activities honoring new SUNY Fredonia President Dr. Virginia Horvath. Tickets may be purchased at the door, or by calling the SUNY Fredonia Ticket Office at 716-673-3501.
