Dunkirk men charged in Fredonia manslaughter

September 16, 2012
The OBSERVER

Two Dunkirk men have been charged with second-degree manslaughter after a 73-year-old Fredonia man was found dead in his home on Saturday.

WDOE-AM and its web site, chautauquatoday.com report that police were called to 217 Porter Ave. around 2:30 p.m. and found 73-year-old Frank Slate Jr. had been fatally shot with what is believed to be a 16-gauge shotgun.

Police Chief Brad Meyers told WDOE that 27-year-old Christopher Grant and 45-year-old Theodore Wickham were visiting with Slate when an argument ensued. Meyers says the situation deteriorated to the point that Wickham shot Slate. Both Wickham and Grant then allegedly fled the scene and were later located by officers in their Dunkirk home.
