Gary A. McCown, 57, of Fredonia died Monday evening (Sept. 17, 2012) at home following a battle with cancer.
He was born March 22, 1955 in Erie, Pa., the son of the late Harold C. "Two-Gun" and Betty J. (Lancaster) McCown.
Gary was a Fredonia High School graduate, Class of 1973. He had been employed by SUNY Fredonia, retiring in 2010 after 32 years of service.

He was a member of the Cassadaga Country Club, its Monday Night Men's League and the Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club in Dunkirk. He also was a former member of the Fenner Hose Company in
Fredonia.
An avid golfer, he also loved hockey, especially the Montreal Canadiens. He enjoyed watching his grandsons play hockey.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah (Dewey) McCown, whom he married Aug. 3, 1974; one daughter, Mollie (Jeffrey Ganey) McCown of Fredonia; and two grandsons, Taylor and Jonathan.
Funeral services will be held Thursday evening at 7 o'clock in the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. The Rev. William Leslie will officiate. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4-7 p.m., three hours prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the RO Foundation, 212 Lake Shore Drive West, Dunkirk, NY 14048.
