Shooting suspect turns himself in

The suspect in Thursday's shooting incident, Brandon C. Washington, turned himself over to authorities in Niagara Falls Saturday.

According to Dunkirk Police, Washington, 27, turned himself in early Saturday morning on charges of second-degree assault, a class D felony and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class C felony.

Washington was wanted in connection to a shooting incident Thursday on the 600 block of South Main Street, Dunkirk. He allegedly shot a man in the leg. The victim was treated at Brooks Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and later released.

Washington was taken into custody by Niagara Falls Police Department in Niagara Falls, N.Y. after turning himself in to police there. He was brought back to Dunkirk where he was arraigned in Dunkirk City Court and sent to the Chautauqua County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash or $100,000 property bail.

The follow-up investigation into the shooting was conducted by the Dunkirk Police Department Detective Bureau, City of Niagara Falls Police Department and New York State Police.
