Penharlow runs for Pomfret Town Board seat

September 23, 2012
The OBSERVER

David Penharlow, a member of the Pomfret Town Board, announces he will be on the November ballot for election to the board. Councilman Penharlow was appointed by the Pomfret Town Board in January to fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Charles Civiletto. Under New York state election law, Councilman Penharlow must run for office to complete Civiletto's term which expires December 31, 2013.

A registered Conservative, Councilman Penharlow is endorsed by the local Conservative and Republican parties. Since being sworn in, Councilman Penharlow has collaborated with other board members on several issues before the town government. These include acting as a liaison for the recently completed North End Water District contract with the village of Fredonia. Prior to his appointment to the town board, Penharlow served for six years on the Pomfret Town Zoning Board of Appeals, including three years as chairman.

"I am proud to be a member of the Pomfret Town Board and eager to continue serving our community," Penharlow said. "I believe my years of experience in business complement the proficiencies of other board members as I lend an added measure of support for sound fiscal policies in town government."

Penharlow, born and raised in Fredonia, is president of Countryside Propane headquartered in Silver Creek. His business background includes working for many years with his father, Robert Penharlow, at his company, Pen's Parts Service, a former automotive parts operation in Fredonia. Prior to founding Countryside Propane, Penharlow worked in the energy industry including positions with National Fuel Gas and serving as director of natural gas and electric for NOCO Energy. He has four children, and currently resides in Fredonia with his wife and son.

Penharlow noted that the town of Pomfret is already heading into public hearings on the town budget for 2013 and he is adamant about working toward no tax increases for residents.

"As a board member, I am committed to holding the line on the town budget," he concluded. "We will continue to focus on eliminating waste and promoting financial stability to ensure a bright future for the Town of Pomfret."
