Assemblyman William Parment cut the ribbon officially opening the new office of the Western New York Association for the Learning Disabled which is a United Way agency. The office, which is handicap accessible, is located in Suite 248 at One Park Place (former Russo Building) in Fredonia.
Thirty years ago - 1982
Faced with a deficit of $24 million dollars over the past three years, the Buffalo Courier Express printed its final edition on Sept. 19 after talks with New York Post Publisher Rupert Murdoch, who had signed a letter of intent to buy the newspaper, fell through. The paper had been in existence for 148 years. Buffalo Evening News had previously announced the afternoon newspaper would print a morning newspaper should the Courier cease publication.

Charles J. Hannum, Dunkirk attorney, will head the large group of volunteers who will solicit the commercial establishments in Dunkirk and Fredonia during the October campaign of the United Community Fund.
