JAMESTOWN - One man is dead and another is in the hospital recovering from a stab wound after a home-invasion burglary Wednesday afternoon.

Jamestown police officers are investigating the incident, which occurred at 11:35 a.m. Wednesday at 112 Barker St., Jamestown. Police report the home's resident returned to find two people burglarizing his home. The resident then fought with the burglars, with both burglars stabbed by the resident.

One of the burglars died a short distance from the home and the second burglar was able to flee the residence and make it to the hospital.

Crime Scene Unit investigators begin their survey of the area outside 112 Barker St. in Jamestown looking for evidence.

Area residents at the scene said the resident may have known the burglars who were inside his home. It is not known what the burglars were looking for in the residence.

According to Captain Bob Samuelson of the Jamestown Police Department, there is no reason to believe that this was random.

"The investigation revealed that this was a specific target," said Samuelson. "The suspects had picked this location for the crime."

Samuelson also said that the suspect who was previously being treated at WCA Hospital has been transferred to UPMC in Hamot for treatment of a stab wound to his upper torso. The injury didn't appear to be life threatening, but he was transferred to undergo surgery.

The Chautauqua County Forensic Identification Team is helping with the investigation. The name of the deceased burglar is not being released yet. More information will be released by police as it becomes available.
