Marie L. Artise, 77, of Dunkirk, NY, passed away Friday, September 14th, 2012 at the Chautauqua County Home with her family by her side; she fought to the end and was a strong woman. The Chautauqua County Home was her home for the past 4 years.
She was born May 30th, 1935 in Dunkirk, NY, the daughter of the late Santo and Genevieve (Muscarella) Tampio. A graduate of Fredonia High, Class of 1953, she worked at Hills Department Store for many years. She was a life member of the V.F.W. Unit 1017.
Marie loved her sports; the Bills, Saints, and the Yankees. She kept everyone at the Home informed of what was going on with the games. She never missed her grandkids' sports and always kept score on her note pad for them. She loved going to the casino with her friend Pat and some friends from the Home and Earl who took them. Marie was a big Elvis fan and went down to Graceland for his 20th Anniversary. She loved spending time with all her grandchildren. She held a special place in her heart for her one and only great granddaughter, Paige Marie Perry. She loved when Paige would come to the home to visit with her. G.G. will be deeply missed by Paige and her mother, Jodi Parker.

She was predeceased by her husband, Russell J. Artise, whom she married June 9, 1956 and who passed away Dec. 17, 1996.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, two daughters and one son, Brenda (Mark) Drummond of Dunkirk, Russell Artise (Trisha Harrison) of Brocton, Judi (Charles) Perry of Dunkirk. Nine grandchildren, Amanda (Jim Quinn) Drummond, Ryan Perry, Tiffany Artise, Kevin Perry, Syrina (Chris Haase) Drummond, Kyle and Bran-don Perry, Logan Lasecki, Chloe Artise, and one great granddaughter, Paige Per-ry. Five step grandchildren, Tammy (Tony) Pinelli, Teresa (Doug) Bunge, Maridyth Drummond, Mark (Katie) Drummond Jr. Adam (Brandy) Grisanti. Ten step-great grandchildren, Nik Tilley, Tyler Lokietek, Peter and Alex Pinelli, Zac and Jamison Bunge, Marky and Mia Drummond, Autumn and Gavin Grisanti and all her extend-ed & great grandchildren, Braden, Emma and Abbey Wilkins, Mackenzie and Jameson Quinn, Kenny, Jessie and Angel Harrison. She also will always love her former daughter-in-law Dinah Champagne. She will also be dearly missed by her very good friend of over 50 years, Pat Altweis. Also survived by two sisters, Rita (Mickey) Roesler of Florida and Toni Tampio of Webster, NY and Florida, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law; and one Aunt Sarah (Tampio) Ricotta.
A celebration of Marie's life will be held at the Chautauqua County Home in the Day Room on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. for family and friends with the Rev. Donald Carlson, who is the chaplain of the Home. Burial in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
The VFW Ladies Auxiliary 1017 will be meeting at 10:00 a.m. at the Chautauqua County Home, Saturday, September 29th for Memorial Services.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marie's memory may be sent to the SUNY Fredonia Credit Union, Williams Center, Fredonia, NY 14063.
