Twenty years ago - 1992
David and Diane Shain of Route 39, Forestville attended the recent State Fair in Syracuse and while visiting the New York State Home Wine Competition booth, they learned that he had won a silver medal for his 1991 Sweet Canadice. This year's wine competition had 30 entries. Sweet Canadice is a sweet dessert wine.
Thirty years ago - 1982
Three Fredonia Central School seniors have been named as 1982 National Merit semifinalists. They are Colin K. Austin, son of Dr. and Mrs. Alan Austin, 33 Hamlet St., Fredonia; Kirsten N. Kraus, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Jon Kraus, 706 Washington Ave., Dunkirk; and Kevin M. Stowell, son of Mrs. Mary Lou Stowell, 20 Leverett St., Fredonia.
Forty years ago - 1972
A new variety of Concord grapes, designated "Ball Hill," won prizes for Frank Grisanti in the Festival of Grapes judging.
Fifty years ago 1962
Experimentation and research at Cease Commissary Service Inc. in Dunkirk on an automated process of instant heating and serving previously frozen food as appealing restaurant dinners have created international interest. Two officials of a French restaurant and commissary chain were in Dunkirk recently to inspect the program, which is still in the experimental stage.
