OBSERVER Staff Report , The OBSERVER

GOWANDA - Walker Cygan scored on a 7-yard run in the third quarter, but Gowanda (0-5) simply couldn't stop Salamanca's ground game as the Warriors downed the Panthers, 64-8, Friday in a Class C battle.

Salamanca quarterback Tanner John rushed for 183 yards on just four carries with scores from 29 and 57 yards out. He also threw for 150 yards, including touchdowns of 30 and 34 yards to Joe Hinman.

Cyrus Spruce also had a big day on the ground for the Warriors. He rushed for 164 yards on 10 carries.

Salamanca held a 42-0 lead at halftime, but Cygan was able to find the end zone for Gowanda near the end of the third quarter. Chase Williams tossed the two-point conversion to Kal Hakes-Gaylord.

Cygan ran for 115 yards on 17 carries while Brennan Geiger picked up 46 yards on 12 carries.

Gowanda will look for its first win of the season, next Saturday at JFK.
